The Longford Academy is a not-for-profit incorporated association whose members are specialists in various aspects of the conservation of heritage buildings and places.

The primary aim of the Longford Academy is to promote and provide training in best-practice building conservation. A secondary aim is to contribute to the conservation of the World Heritage-listed Brickendon and Woolmers Estates at Longford, Tasmania.

The Longford Academy was established in 2010 by the APT Australasia Chapter and nine editions were coordinated by the Chapter. In 2019, the Longford Academy Inc. was established as an independent body which now has responsibility for all training courses. The APT Australasia Chapter is pleased to be a supporter of the Longford Academy.

To date (early 2026) we have run a total of 24 courses, which have become recognised as essential training for Australasian heritage workers, as there is nothing else quite like them. Participants have come from all Australian states, from New Zealand and occasionally, from further abroad.

As well as exploring the teaching opportunities presented by the wonderful range of buildings at Brickendon and Woolmers Estates, we make a small contribution to their ongoing conservation through our hands-on courses and associated work party activities.
